Keeping digital data within the jurisdiction

On the day the Atlas cloud went live, Stöð 2 and Vísir covered it in a report by Lillý Valgerður Pétursdóttir under the headline "It matters that digital data is kept within the jurisdiction" (in Icelandic).

The system makes it possible to process and store data in Iceland without relying on foreign tech giants and undersea cables. Atlas keeps data within Icelandic jurisdiction, where no other government and no other curious party has access to it.

This has been attempted before, fifteen years ago, but the landscape has changed. Cloud adoption has come much further, and instability in international politics has reached the point where people think twice before sending data out of the country. Beyond that, it strengthens the domestic technology industry and domestic knowledge of hosting.
